Sighting Text:
* Monte Ballard report. monterb@netusa1.net They are a second and a third hand report and I don't have a lot of details. From a car rental guy driving me to get my car from a body shop. He told me he was from upper Michigan. I mentioned that I used to hunt up there but I stopped hunting. He said he and his father used to hunt there also and asked what I liked to do now. I told him I was interested in Bigfoot. He was very interested and said his best friend heard a noise outside his house one night. He thought 'coons were in his trash and went out to chase them off. It wasn't 'coons, it was a Bigfoot bent over looking in the cans. It heard him and straightened up; he said it had to be over eight feet tall. It looked at him and walked away rapidly. My driver said when his friend told him about it he kept repeating, "It was the biggest thing I have ever seen." By that time we were at the shop and it was near closing time so I had to get out. I don't think he had any more details anyway.

Sighting Text:
* Also from Rich LaMonica. The story of the "Kashehotahpala” When I was young, I often went hunting in the swamps near my home in Mississippi. I liked to use the blowgun to hunt for birds or squirrels. One day, while I was hunting, I heard a loud scream, like a human voice. I ran home to see if anyone was hurt, but everyone was fine. My cousin told me I had heard Kashehotahpala, (sounds like an old woman yelling). He told me that he screams in the woods to scare the hunter away from the animal. He has a man's body, but his legs and feet are those of a deer. His face and head are shriveled up, and scary looking. He never hurts anyone, but he loves to scare people.

Sighting Text:
* Bob Daigle report.'bobdaigle@webtv.net Last Sep, while being taken by a friend to see some two week old foot prints in an area in a central Mich. Co. (which had several BF reports during the 90's), we came upon a fresher pair of left and right tracks. They were impressed in a small mound of hard packed coarse-grained, almost gravelly sand on a two-track road which has been gated off by the Mich. DNR to exclude any motorized vehicles. The sandy mound was only about 5 inches higher than the surrounding area, and about 5 x 10 feet. The tracks measured 17 x 7 x 5 inches, and were about 4 1/2 feet from heel to heel. There were pressure ridges on the edges of the tracks, indicating more than a simple digging or scooping process by a hoaxer. The second track showed a pressure ridge or uplifting of the soil just behind where the ball of the foot would have been. I seem to recall some technical discussion about this being likely to happen if the creature is making a strong push-off with that foot. Photos taken are nothing to get too excited about, since gravelly soil did not show distinct toes, and pictures were taken in less than ideal light conditions. Directly in line with the 2 footprints, and about 15 - 20 behind them were 2 two small broken branches, both less than 2 inch diameter, and snapped downward at a point 7 - 8 feet above ground. We set up a Camtrakker with bait nearby for two nights before I had to return home, but got no results.

Sighting Text:
FROM BOBBIE SHORT NEWSLETTER January 2007 - Newsletter #189 January terminology… "Monster Beast" Christmas Day 1721 Monster Beast, Natchez, Mississippi - - (Earliest recorded account?) The following passage is from a book called "Charlevoix's Louisiana." It's from the journal of Pierre François-Xavier de Charlevoix, S J, a French Jesuit and explorer. Though he did not have a true sighting, there is enough evidence to make one wonder if a bigfoot type creature was behind it. If so, then this account this would be the earliest known white man written report of such a creature in North America. The area around Natchez, Mississippi in this day still brings forth reports of bigfoot type creatures. That a wolf was behind this report seems highly unlikely. Wolves were not common to the area at the time and hardly match up with the characteristics described herein: - --- "The first night I lay in the settlement, there happened a great alarm about nine o'clock in the evening; upon asking the reason of it, [sic] I was told there was, in the neighborhood, a beast of an unknown species, of an extraordinary bulk, and whose cry did not in the least resemble that of any known animal. Nobody however could say he had seen it and they formed a judgment of its size entirely from its strength: it had already carried off some sheep and calves, and worried some cows. I told those who gave me this account, that an estranged wolf might very well have done all this and that, as to its cry, people were deceived in these matters every day. I could persuade nobody, they still would have it that it was some monstrous beast. It was heard again, and every one ran out armed with what he could find, but it was to no purpose." Pierre François-Xavier de Charlevoix, SJ Letter Thirtieth, At the Natchez, December 25, 1721 "Histoire et Description Generale de la Nouvelle France avec le Journal Historique d'un Voyage fait par du Roi dans l'Amerique Septentrionale"

MI ALCONA 1999 TR#93 * Dave Steiner here again and this happened on the 22 of November this year. We were in Alcona County in Michigan hunting deer about 3:30 in the afternoon. I had placed my wife down in a small swamp and had walked back west of her to go down in and walk towards her. I had just come through a real thick section of cedar saplings and had stopped to take a break. I lit a cigarette and heard a branch snap behind me in the thicket I had just come through. I turned towards the thicket and had a strange feeling that I was being watched. I never did see any one so I turned back around and then heard movement in the thicket again. I could tell by the sound of the footsteps that it was two legged and not an animal, I heard a very strange clicking sound as whatever it was moved from my left to my right. the only thing that I can describe the sound as would be similar to a hammer drill running and very loud... the movement stopped as did the sound,, this happened three times as I tried to see what it was. As I said, the area it was in was very thick and I had a hard time getting through it. What ever it was had no difficulty getting through at all. It just busted saplings and limbs and made all kinds of movement sounds as it continued to walk by me. At this time I was approximately 40 yds from it...then it stopped and the next thing I heard was a scream that I can only describe as a large chimp or primate that was mad as hell and screaming. Then it was silent... I walked to where my wife was and she asked me if I had smelled the strong musty odor a few minutes before It had gotten to her...she described it as a musty wet dog or blanket type of odor. We left the area and talked about it that night. I am convinced that it was a Sasquatch and am going back in to look for it. I have hunted there for 42 years and never heard anything like that in the woods.

Summary: 8 FT BF STANDING UNDER TREE, ARM DRAPED OVER BRANCH

Sighting Text:
MI DELTA 1963 TR#78 Randy Wertz report. I spent the summer of 1963 in Escanaba, Michigan with my aunt and uncle. Every Friday night we would go for the weekend to their summer cabin in Dickenson County near the town of Hardwood. I recall it was about a half hours drive from Escanaba. On the Friday night in question (early July), my uncle and I were sitting on the front porch (about 7:00 PM) and my aunt was in the back yard hanging clothes on the line. She ran into the front yard and told us a bear was at the tree line behind the house. My uncle went to get his rifle and I went into the back yard to see the bear. I was a kid from New Jersey and we don't get very much wildlife wandering the streets of Perth Amboy. When I got around back, I stood frozen in the yard. Our visitor was no kind of "bear" I'd ever seen. He (she or it) was standing under a tree approximately 75' from the house. It was standing on two legs and had it's right arm draped over a branch and was looking under the branch at us (my aunt was behind me). It had to be at least 8' tall (we measured the height of the branch the next day) and was covered by short, dark hair. Because it was standing in the shadow, I couldn't tell if the hair was brown or black. The face, under the hands and bottoms of the feet were fairly light colored (like a light skinned Negro) and the face itself was quite human like. The eyes looked dark because of the shadows. We all stood there for at least a century looking at each other (probably no more than a few seconds) when my uncle came out onto the back porch with his rifle. At that point our friend casually turned and walked back up the deer path and into the woods. We never saw or heard from him again although we always felt he was near. My aunt's dog liked to go for walks in the woods with them and after that incident, wouldn't leave the property. The dog was not with us that night. My uncle's cabin was at the end of an old abandoned logging road several miles outside of town. The entire area is heavily forested with pine and fir trees and the ground is covered with pine needles. The terrain itself is rolling hills with a few high ridges and is rather easy to hike into. I never really thought about what I'd seen until the article appeared in the old "Argosy" magazine about the "Michigan Monster." That article was written in the mid or late 60's. There were sightings on the upper peninsula of Michigan of a hairy thing that raised some hell for a while and them sort of faded away. I firmly believe our friend was the Michigan Monster. I would also like to point out that my uncle was a respected business man in the community. He was never criticized (at least to his face) when he told the story of our encounter. The old-timers up there know something is out there and respect the word of people who have a sighting.

MI 1999 TR95 * Bob Daigle report.'bobdaigle@webtv.net Last Sept, while being taken by a friend to see some two week old foot prints in an area in a central Mich.

MI COUNTY DATE TR97 * Monte Ballard report. monterb@netusa1.net They are a second and a third hand report and I don't have a lot of details.

One interesting aspect is the overall hair-covered body, with hair six to eight inches long, and the lack of distinguishing facial features. This fits the description of the Momo Bigfoot of 1972 and the 1965 creature that attacked Christine Van Acker near Monroe, Michigan. Loren Coleman says that these creatures are often referred to as the "Eastern Bigfoot," a much different creature from the Pacific Northwest's Sasquatch.

Sighting Text:
MI TR 22 Kenneth A. Sayers report This report was further backed up by a newspaper article I found, in the Port Huron paper, dated April 24th, 1969. It tells of the sighting of a six foot tall, gray “wild animal,” that seems to have upset a whole group of homes. A group of children were particularly frightened, and the article goes on to say that parents were out in the woods with guns looking for “it.” The article also states that several complaints had been filed in regards to the creature. It is also important to state that the reports of this creature were from an area near the Black River, less than two miles from the pond aforementioned.

MI SAINT CLAIR COUNTY 1988 TR#92 * BFROreport b)' Dawn Herrick. Sept 30 initially, 1988, through November. It was the eve before opening day of bow season for deer in Michigan, and three hunters were in St. Clair Count)', near Hwy 21 and Rabbidue Road in the Beards Hills. About one mile from that junction the hunters were camping on a ridge in the state forest. While talking around the fire, something was notired walking the along the low side of the ridge on the north side OF the Pine River some 40-50 yards away. It was heavy and didn't waver or trip over all the branches and undergrowth along the river. Circling to the east we heard a piercing scream. Witnesses froze, as they regained composure and thought somebody was trying to scare them. Meanwhile the creature had moved to the south slope of the ridge some 20 yards away. Dan yelled out that the group had weapons and the joke was over...then we heard a loud, high-pitched scream and a tree falling, and as we gathered back at fireside, something very large passed us just beyond the area of fire-light, and was running faster than a human, with long strides. We could clearly hear the foot-falls as it ran through the forest knocking over small saplings and dead branches. In about 15-20 seconds the sounds faded to nothing. Using flashlights we noted a tree of 6-8 inches dia snapped like a toothpick about 8.5 feet up the bole. The hunters decided to return to camp and stay by the fire until daybreak as it was too dark to see the road a half mile away. As the fire died down in the night, a large shadow could be seen some 10-15 yards beyond the light, watching them. Once it approached and they all moved towards weapons, but it retreated into the darkness again. They left the next day. That evening, discussed the incident with Dan's father and he said something had been watching him while he sat in a tree stand, and he heard strange squealing and hooting noises in the direction of a valley. A week later, hunters returned to camp, and this time the creature only circled them. They experienced this same thing throughout the deer season, and once they saw something squatting, watching them, and as they watched the creature they could tell it had dark black hair or fur, used its hands to steady itself, and the eyes glowed a yellowish color in the light...not green like other wild animals. These appearances continued for some two to three months and then abruptly stopped. Witness has not returned to the area in several years. The area is forested from Yale to Lexington near Lake Huron. Witnesses were only 18,19, and 20 ears old.

MI SANILAC 1987 TR89 * [EOBICBF] Report: August, 1987; Sanilac County, Michigan. Credit: Ron Schaffner. rschaffner@fuse.net, EOBICBF@onelist.com Denise was in the summer of 1987 near Lexington, MI, not far from Highway M-25, and saw a creature. Not a typical Bigfoot,as it was a monkey-type creature, hunched over, with a hairless face and the body having long whitish colored hair, slightly darker on the back. It was about five foot tall, and might be a foot taller if it stood erect. There were narrow human like shoulders though the arms were longer and the hands almost touched the ground stooped over. The legs had haunches similar to a dog and the creature had a monkey-like face, wide eyes, flat nostrils and no lips. It was 11PM and there was a light post to see it with. It squinted at the light, the face wrinkling. The forehead was slanted back like a monkey, not like a humans. The walk was bipedal, but it used the front right hand also, causing a rolling gait. The left hand was held higher, as if possibly injured. It was in no apparent hurry, turning from the light and walking down the driveway. Dogs throughout the area continued to bark as the creature apparently moved from west to east in the dark. Creature Chronicles http://home.fuse.net/rschaffner

Summary: VOCALIZATION, CREATURE IN DEEP WATER NOT SEEN. 16 IN TRACKS

Sighting Text:
MI TR22 Kenneth A. Sayers report The report is from Port Huron, Michigan, and dates from 1968 or ’69. Several instances during this time period, I learned later, police reports had been filed on a hairy human like, so-called “monster,” which had been seen by area residents. I recently interviewed a man who had an experience with this creature…he was a young hunter and trapper at the time. He presently is a man of high standing in the community, and I wish to keep his name anonymous. Portions of the following are from a taped interview I had with the person. The man explained that he had heard “rumblings” (rumors) of strange occurrences, presumably dealing with this creature, at the time, so it is evident other people had seen it, but kept basically quiet. One Night this man and a group of his friends were camping at a site outside of Port Huron, on an oxbow of the Black River. In the middle of the oxbow was a pond, surrounded by woods and brush, and, as the man stated plainly, it was a particularly eerie spot. The still of the night was erupted by a strange “bellow” in the vicinity of the pond. It was not the scream of any usual animal, so the man ran towards it to investigate. As he ran towards it, with his friends trailing behind, the “creature” could be heard crashing in the brush, turning towards the pond. Then, the man explained, he heard a tremendous splash in the water, and as he approached the pond, could still hear something splashing, and, presumably, walking around in the deep water. When one of his friends followed with a flashlight, and cast the beam on the water, all that could be seen were sizable ripples on an otherwise stagnant pond. Whatever it was, it had not left the water, but had gone under, and stayed under. “We surmised that whatever it was dove into the water and either hid under the water, by whatever means, or escaped through some kind of a tunnel.” The man explained. He then told me that no one would go into the pond to investigate if there was a tunnel in it or not frankly because they all were afraid of its waters. He also added that there were rumors of many tunnels in that area, and that the pond was very deep. The group then found evidence that left no doubt that what they had encountered was not a normal animal, the man recounted. “We organized and found the footprints that I mentioned before, that were probably spaced five to six feet, and were roughly sixteen inches long, and embedded in the wet earth as deep as six inches, where the ball of a human foot would be. And they were fresh when we found them, because there had been rains, they weren’t washed in. And when we walked on the same ground, you could discern our footprints, but only lightly, so whatever made the tracks was easily three to four times our weight, and tall, because of the span, the stride. We finally found some with, what we thought, was pretty good detail of either a claw or a toenail, kind of a sharp definition. We made plaster casts of, I’m thinking two or three, and I remember one was really clear, it was a lot clearer than the others, it was roughly sixteen inches ling. It was a large, bare, human foot, basically, with some humongous toenails…there were sets of two, plain and simple, a left and a right.” The man then recounted all the second-and incidents that he knew of, in reference to this creature. He also told that later, he found similar footprints, again in the vicinity of the pond.
