Summary: 7 FT TALL WILD BOY, BF COMES ON ROAD BEHIND TRUCK

Sighting Text:
TR 66 APR 97 * Also from Chuck Fuhrman. In 1963-4, his ex-wife as a girl, had gone with her boyfriend's family to a lake in Montana, which he didn't know the name of. At the time there were stories of an escaped teen-age boy that was lost in the wilderness, the "Wild Boy," that had grown up hairy and over 7 foot tall. There were also UFO's reported at the lake that same summer, so he thinks there might be a connection. She and her boyfriend and some local guys went out searching for the Wild boy, armed with guns, on local roads. She was in the back of the pickup truck with a powerful light, and looking backwards. After they passed him, a Bigfoot came out onto the road, and froze for a few seconds in the powerful light beam. It had long arms and legs, she said. They banged on top of the cab to stop, and the truck went back to the site. The boys followed the creature in the dark with the light, leaving her scared and alone in the truck. They didn't give her the keys, lest she panic and leave without them, and there was also no light. Joy is a teacher now, remarried, at a Portland school. Info passed to Peter Byrne for follow-up.

TR 56 APR 96 * Betty's husband, Eugene Fields, Another story, this time told by a logger friend in Montana about 10-15 years ago, but he doesn't know where. His grandmother was tent camping and picking berries. Going to bed that night, after dark a noise was heard outside of the tent. Peeking out she saw a male, female, and an adolescent Bigfoot snooping around The male reached into the dead campfire, dug his hand through the ashes of the dead fire pit, picked up a handful of cold ashes, smelled them, then threw them away. She was scared and didn't know what to do, so climbed back in her sleeping bag until dawn when the creatures were gone.

Sighting Text:
MT TR17* . Fred Mahoney, his twin brother and a friend, Char1ie, went horse packing in 1951. They left from the town of Wisdom, on the Big Hole River, Montana, travelling east into the Beaverhead Nat. Fst. They had gone in about ten miles on their camping trip when they saw something big run down the trail ahead of them and lose itself in the woods. Fred said they turned the horses and went the other way so the horses wouldn't spook, and he noticed there were bare human footprints that seemed about 14 inches long on the trail. The thing was about half a mile away when they saw it run, but Fred guessed it was about 6 1/2 to 7 feet tall, and had long brown hair, but not shaggy like a dog.

Sighting Type: 1
Summary: 8 FT RED/BROWN BF, RED ETES, SHOT AT AND VANISHED

Sighting Text:
TR 49 JULY 95 * Dave Byrd listened to the Art Bell "Dreamland" rerun show (original June 18th) on 1190 KEX Radio, July 23rd, 7 PM - 10 PM. The guest speaker was Linda Moulton Howe (animal mutilations specialist), and she commented about a hunter (no date) in Cascade County, Montana, that came across an 8 foot, reddish brown hair, creature with glowing red eyes. The rancher shot at the creature and it disappeared in a flash of light. A couple of witnesses, Steven Ungleman and Peter Dekora, were named (Reese Mikel input) And that's the way it was officially recorded in the Cascade County files. So, the question is what is it that could disappear in a flash of light? Linda referred to a "shape shifter," (apparently a being that can change its shape, or "wink-out" into another dimension). Call 1-800-971-4278 for a tape of the program. We had this happen before in Pennsylvania, I recall, where the creature on the porch had its hands up in a position of surrender. The lady shot anyway, and the creature winked-out of existence (In TR Spl #1, $2.50 postpaid, NUFOG presentation on the BF/UFO connection). Linda said the sheriff's office of Cascade County was at the time flooded with calls on animal mutilations and reports of moving lights and disks in the sky. Just today 7/24, had a call from Neil Brandt of Novato, CA, concerning the same kind of events happening. He did an extensive report in "WBS Alien Report," number 8 ($2.50 postpaid) concerning an event he had in 1957. Give him a call if you want some eye-opening information (415) 898-9077. It was Bell's 50th birthday and he said he was writing a book.

Sighting Text:
MT GALLATIN 1993 TR#76 * From the Internet, posted by Ron Schaffner. Daniel Lakatos was in western Montana hiking on June 3rd, 1993. He and two friends were backpacking the Gallatin Divide, and while hiking towards their car at Portal Creek Access late in the day near sunset, were met with a nasty storm front; heavy wind and rain and hail almost covered the noise of something else in the howl. Across a clearing, cut about ten years previously, at the older tree line, there was a spine tingling howl, and something massive and dark, about 60 yards off, running on two legs went through the brush and disappeared in the forest. They heard the howl again from far off, and hurriedly left the area. “I’ve read about sightings in the Anaconda/Pintier region as well as the Helena area but as far as I can tell I’m the only one to report a sighting in this area.” One is tempted to speculate on the creature howling in anger at the storm, and again as the storm abated.

Sighting Text:
MT TR24 Scott Sebring, (blonde, but says he is half Blackfoot) dressed in traditional Indian garb, was the main speaker, covering numerous topics concerning Native American lore and his own experiences with Bigfoot. While visiting his great-grandfathers remains at the Blackfoot Reservation in Montana, Scott learned of an upcoming pow-wow dedicated to the "hairy man." Scott says, once every one, two, or three years, it is said that, "when the buffalo, the deer, and the coyote come together, then the hairy man appears." Scott brought along a highly ornate copy of a "rattle" that represented those three animals (see drawing of buffalo rib bead-work with deer-hoof rattles, and a tuft of coyote hair). During the pow-wow dance, a man dressed in a hair-suit dances out and entertains the young ones...and the elders also. Scott has left the beaded and leather wrapped rattle for our display case. The Blackfeet think that the "Bigfeet" are just another "type of people," and want to just leave them alone. Scott says his relative is interred in a lava tube/cave that has been enlarged. One of the other things he says he saw in the cave were the bones of a very large man, 8 1/2 feet tall, that had a strange, unhuman looking skull. The burial area and pow-wow are open only to Native Americans

The article, "A park Ranger's Lifelong Bigfoot Quest," Richard D. Seifried, Blackfoot Indians employed by the NPS said one winter near Babb, MT, on east side of Glacier NP, reported a creature running along the ridge top and screaming. Local deputy sheriff found huge prints in the snow and a patch of wool-like fur on a barbed wire fence. Lab at Bozeman said it was from a Grizzly bear. Again in July of 1985 with wife and daughter, he found a footprint along a trail in heavy forest. Five toes, delicate arch, and a well proportioned heel were seen cross-wise in the dusty trail.

While at a hunting camp the horses spooked late at night (not uncommon). Something ran through camp making a strange yell. witness thought it was a bear, but the next morning found some parallel tracks that appeared to be man shaped, only much larger. The area was in a high mountain meadow with lots of creeks, swampy in spots.

Once before, twenty years ago, he was at Lake McDonald Park in Glacier Nat. Park, MT, at 1 AM, when there was a howling scream for five seconds. Mostly heard, the one he saw was 8-9 feet tall, went into a crouch, and zipped into the woods. This was in 1982 while a boy...a boy and his dog. The dog's ears went up when he first heard an intensely loud noise that he at first thought was an elk bugle, then he saw the reddish fur creature, its arm leaning against a branch. The noise was so loud from the thing that he started to pass out, but made it back to the cabin, where he sat with a 30-30.

Mont tr23 Earnest Fritz. "Very NW corner of Montana...Heavily wooded for many miles...I was standing in a little open field on my way to go fishing. Suddenly a deer came rushing out of the woods into the open meadow, very frightened. There was a terrible blood curdling scream, and I was a little afraid...sunk down into the grass…out of the woods bounded this 8 foot tall, brown creature, long arms, walking upright on two very sturdy legs…100 feet away. The deer became paralyzed at the screech of the animal (Fritz did a credible imitation of the Bigfoot's noise at this point...the noise started low, and went to a very high pitch)...reached the deer in four good long strides, grabbed the deer by the head, lifted it up bodily with no problem at all, and sunk its teeth into its throat...the deer quit struggling in a few minutes...then it looked right and left, then right again, to see if anything would challenge it to its kill...seeing no problem. I think I had sunk down in the dirt a foot trying to keep out of sight. If I had wanted to take a picture, I wouldn’t have tried it...the click of the camera might have alerted it. It grabbed the deer around the nose with a hand...not a paw, took the deer, slung it over its shoulder, and disappeared into the woods. I was close enough to see that the face was half human, half animal, always on it's hind legs, 8 feet, and very agile." Mr. Fritz has written an adventure book, one chapter on Sasquatch,"Trail Of The Hunter," $15.95. Jim Hewkin also interviewed him.

In western Montana, in the middle of April, the witness was driving through a heavily wooded area at night. All of a sudden, the car started rocking, and from the top of the car, an ugly gray face peered down and looked in the front window...it was pressing so hard against the windshield, that it cracked, his witness said. Trying to get in, it rammed the car repeatedly with its shoulder and did some $500.00 worth of damage...$1100 if you count the paint job. It left heavy scratches as it tried to get in as the car careened along at 80 mph. Suddenly it flew straight up, keeping up with wings. It had red glowing eyes, was four feet tall, was brown and gray. It glided along rather than pump the 5 foot long wings like a bird.

Sighting Text:
* Forwarded from Ann H. Montana sighting. My best friend's grandmother lives near Seeley Lake, MT, and told him this story. Several years ago she heard some noise off the back porch in an area where she kept a freezer outside. When the noise persisted, she went to the porch to investigate. She saw a bear near her freezer and the freezer door was open. It appeared that the bear had his head buried in the upright, as she could only see part of the animal. The front half of the bear was hidden by the open freezer door. In the past, she had trouble with bears, so thinking this was just another marauder, she opened the screen door and gave a shout. At the sound of her voice, the "bear" stood up, and faced her to look at her. What she saw nearly gave her a heart attack. A "large ape" faced her briefly, then quickly walked out of the porch light into the night. That is all I know of the story other than the fact that she still lives there, alone and has only told a few people for fear of reprisal. Again, I'm still skeptical, but I don't understand why a grandmother would make up such a story to tell only her grandchildren. My buddy says she is on the level and was a bit hesitant to even tell them. Well, for what it's worth, there it is. I'm hoping to do a little fishing in MT this summer and would like to talk to her. Sighting Text:
MT TR25 * Jeff Schafer, 17, and a friend went camping with parents near Lolo Hot Springs, close to Missoula, MT, June 20th, 1974. Riding their Honda CL-175 motorcycles 20 MPH up a logging road, they went around a bend about 2PM, and a Bigfoot ran in front of them so close that they had to crash the bikes in the ditch to avoid hitting it. It sort of growled or howled at them, and continued in two steps to cross the road and was gone. It was black, with 8-9" long thick hairs collected later from a bush (no longer have hair-threw away because it smelled like urine and feces). There was also a good 18X7" track in the middle of the road where the nine foot creature bounded out of the ravine, and up a wooded slope, striding at 5 ft. The dome shaped huge head had an ear like a man's and a beard, tho' it had bare skin around the eyes and nose, a bare chest like a gorilla, and estimated at 400 plus pounds. The hands and arms hung like a man's, and it did not hunch over. It was coming from the ravine, apparently startled by them, where they guessed it had been feeding on fish, up to 4# golden and brook trout caught by parents. That night, about 2AM, something in the bush made a growl/howling sound like an elk in rut, and they heard a log "crunch" (like something smashed it). Jeff says he could easily pass a lie detector test. Discussing the sighting with a Forest Service man in Missoula, he said that he had seen them too, but didn't want to scare away tourists by saying anything. He mentioned that the creatures were active whenever fireflies were active...and Jeff said there were plenty of them out that night.

The pelvis was crushed and the skull missing. Still over 7 ft in length. The Livingston Police Dept. has taken over the area, near Electric peak and won't let anyone in. Apparently she heard two truckers talking at the Flying J. Truckstop in Billings where she works as a waitress.” Couldn't find anything in the newspapers around Electric Peak, Montana about the seven-foot plus body found there. But, I did send an e-mail off to the Livingston Police Department for any information they may be able to supply concerning the rumor. Chances are they won't answer, but you never know. A couple of interesting things about that area is that Lewiston, Montana (which is a little over a hundred miles north of Electric Peak), is mentioned in Charles Hoy Fort's (c) 1923 book "New Lands" on page 166. It involved a mirage in the sky that was seen on January 17, 1892 and written about the next day in the Brooklyn Eagle. The image was of "Indians and hunters" charging and then retreating.< http://www.resologist.net/ > Lewiston, Montana is also mentioned in Loren Coleman's (c) 2001 revised edition of his book, "Mysterious America," on page 89. It concerns a fish (around seven feet long) with no noticeable fins or tail, that was seen floating down the Missouri River during the summer of 1970. I recommend getting his book, not only to read more about the previous sighting, but also because while I was reading his book, I felt like I was on the back porch with a neighbor chattin' about the weather. A very well written folksy kind of book. +From J.N. There is something being covered up by the local populace. I spoke via e-mail to a former employee of (Outlaws Pizza, Gardiner, MT) High fences have been erected around part of the area. We are talking about a group of Religious Extremists. The fence, very large with the curly wire at the top. My guess is they are funded. +From G.C. In regards to the story about some sort of gigantic, decomposed corpse found near Electric Peak near Gardner, Montana, I telephoned the Livingston Press [401 S. Main St., Livingston, MT 59047] this morning at their toll-free number: 1-800-345-8412. My call was transferred from a receptionist to someone in the newsroom where I explained that I had sought to verify a report that had appeared on the Internet. This person in the newsroom did not know anything about a recent story of a corpse found near Electric Peak and didn't know of anything involving the Electric Peak area being closed. He did add that back in the 50s some "guy had died in the area” and pieces of his body had been found here and there over the years.

Sighting Type: 1
Summary: Native American reference to Jocko

Sighting Text:
* A Native American reference to Jocko danegeld2@aol.com (Ben Blake) This is a reference to the Jocko Legend from the Flathead Tribe from western Montana. Coyote and the Monsters of Bitterroot Valley This story was recorded from a great-great-grandmother whose name means "Painted-Hem-of-the-Skirt." In the summer of 1955, she was the only person on the Flathead Reservation in western Montana that even an interested interpreter could find who knew the old stories of their people. The Bitterroot Valley is in western Montana. After Coyote had killed the monster near the mouth of the Jocko River, he turned south and went up the Bitterroot Valley. Soon he saw two huge monsters, one at each end of a ridge. Coyote killed them, changed them into tall rocks, and said, "You will always be there." There the tall rocks still stand. Then he went on. Someone had told him about another monster, an Elk monster, up on a mountain to the East. Coyote said to his wife, Mole, "Dig a tunnel clear to the place where that monster is. Dig several holes in the tunnel. Then move our camp to the other side." Coyote went through the tunnel Mole had made, got out of it, and saw the Elk monster. The monster was surprised to see him. "How did you get here?" he asked. "Where did you come from?" The monster was scared. "I came across the prairie," lied Coyote. "Don't you see my trail? You must be blind if you didn't see me." The monster became more scared. He thought that Coyote must have greater powers than he himself had. Coyote's dog was Pine Squirrel, and the Elk monster's dog was Grizzly Bear. Grizzly Bear growled at Pine Squirrel, and Pine Squirrel barked back. "You'd better stop your dog," said the monster. "If you don't, he'll lose his head." The dogs wanted to fight. Grizzly Bear jumped at Coyote's dog. Pine Squirrel went under him and killed him with the flint he wore on his head. The flint ripped Grizzly Bear. Bones and flesh flew everywhere. "Look down there," said Coyote to the Elk monster. "See those people coming along that trail? Let's go after them." He knew that what he saw was Mole moving their camp, but the monster could not see clearly in the tunnel. Elk monster picked up his shield, his spear, and his knife. "I'm ready," he said. After they had gone a short distance along the trail, the monster fell into the first hole. Coyote called loudly, as if he were calling to an enemy ahead of them. The monster climbed out of the hole, tried to run, but fell into one hole after another. At last Coyote said to him, "Let me carry your shield. Then you can run faster." Coyote put the shield on his back, but the monster still had trouble. "Let me carry your spear," Coyote said. Soon he got the monster's knife, also--and all of his equipment. Then Coyote ran round and round, shouting, "This is how we charge the enemy." And he jabbed the monster with the monster's spear. "I have the enemy's war bonnet!" he yelled. He jabbed the monster four times, each time yelling that he had taken something from the enemy. The fifth time he jabbed the monster, he yelled, "I have stripped the enemy." Then he said to the Elk monster, "You can never kill anyone again." Coyote went on up the Bitterroot Valley. He heard a baby crying, up on a hill. Coyote went up to the baby, not knowing it was a monster. He put his finger in the baby's mouth, to let it suck. The baby ate the flesh off Coyote's finger, then his hand, and then his arm. The monster baby killed Coyote. Only his skeleton was left. After a while, Coyote's good friend Fox came along. Fox stepped over the dead body, and Coyote came to life. He began to stretch as if he had been asleep. "I've slept a long time," he said to Fox. You've been dead," Fox told him. "That baby is a monster, and he killed you." Coyote looked around, but the baby was gone. He put some flint on his finger and waited for the baby to come back. When he heard it crying, he called out, "Hello, baby! You must be hungry." Coyote let it have his flinted finger to suck. The baby cut himself and died. "That's the last of you," said Coyote. "This hill will forever be called Sleeping Child." And that is what the Indians call it today. After Coyote had left Sleeping Child, Fox joined him again and they traveled together. Soon Coyote grew tired of carrying his blanket, and so he laid it on a rock. After they had traveled farther, they saw a storm coming. They went back to the rock, Coyote picked up his blanket, and the two friends moved on. When the rain began to fall, he put the blanket over himself and Fox. While lying there, covered by the blanket, they looked out and saw the rock running toward them. Fox went uphill, but Coyote ran downhill. The rock followed close on Coyote's trail. Coyote crossed the river, sure that he was safe. Spreading his clothes out on a rock, he thought he would rest while they dried. But the rock followed him across the river. When he saw it coming out of the water, Coyote began to run. He saw three women sitting nearby, with stone hammers in their hands. "If that rock comes here," Coyote said to the women, "you break it with your hammers." But the rock got away from the women. Coyote ran on to where a creek comes down from the mountains near Darby. There he took some vines--Indians call them "monkey ropes"--and placed them so that the rock would get tangled up in them. He set fire to the monkey ropes. The rock got tangled in the burning ropes and was killed by the heat. Then Coyote said to the rock, "The Indians will come through here on their way to the buffalo country. They will play with you. They will find you slick and heavy, and they will lift you up." In my childhood, the rock was still there, but it is gone now, no one knows where. Coyote left the dead rock and went on farther. Soon he saw a mountain sheep. The sheep insulted Coyote and made him angry. Coyote grabbed him and threw him against a pine tree. The body went clear through the tree, but the head stayed on it. The horns stuck out from the trunk of the tree. Coyote said to the tree, "When people go by, they will talk to you. They will say, 'I want to have good luck. So I will leave a gift here for you.' They will leave gifts and you will make them lucky--in hunting or in war or in anything they wish to do." The tree became well known as the Medicine Tree. People from several tribes left gifts in it when they passed on their way to the buffalo country that is on the rising-sun side of the mountains. In my childhood, the skull and face were still there. When I was a young girl, people told me to put some of my hair inside the sheep's horn, so that I would live a long time. I did. That's why I'm nearly ninety years old. As the interpreter and I were leaving Painted-Hem- of-the-Skirt, she bent low and made a sweeping movement around her ankles and the hem of her long skirt. Then she said a few words and laughed heartily. The interpreter explained: "She says she hopes that she will not find a rattlesnake wrapped around her legs because she told some of the old stories in the summertime." She had laughed often as she told the tales, but I feel sure that her mother would not have related them in the summerti

MT SAPPHIRE 1994 TR#92 * BFRO report, bfro-list@moneymaker.org, from about five years ago, in Sapphire County, Montana, near the Sand Basin area. Witnesses had been in bed for about half an hour.
