Sighting Text:
NJ BURLINGTON 1997 TR94 BFRO* In April, 1997, Burlington Co., NJ, on the Batona trail, Wharton State Forest. Thirty people were making a three day hike in the thick pine forest after a week of rain, and made camp at an isolated spot two miles off the trail. The camp had only a dirt road for access and was quite remote. Sleeping at the fringe of the camp, at 1:30 AM there was a terrible scream that witness wasn’t familiar with. The large creature moved smoothly through the brush, and was within 20 yards of the group. Witness buried his head in the sleeping bag and tried to look unappetizing. An hour or two later, it passed by again, and again other hikers kept quiet. As it progressed, the creature made a rolling sound over the forest floor, rather than steps like deer, and it was hitting tree branches as it passed. There were three distinct screams. The next morning other campers reported hearing the screams, but nothing else. Later witness was informed by an acquaintance that live near there, that the Screamer Phenomenon” is frequent in that particular area.
