Sighting Text:
* kokanee@ptialaska.net (Rob and Carol Alley) Aug 12, ‘00 note. In my own 1998 sighting, Mar. 1st, 5:00 PM, light drizzle, 10 miles north of Ketchikan just south of the Whipple Creek bridge, on the highway, a seven ft., uniformly black figure, crossed the highway in front of us at 100 yds, walked across my lane(I was southbound) and ran from the center line to the trees, (about thirty feet from the center lane to trees) in three bounds, arms swinging. My twelve year old stepson didn't take his eyes off it but I had to look back at the road as we passed, I missed the last two bounds. It didn't even look at the van once, as far as I noticed and according to my step-son, and that was it. My boy was agitated and wouldn't let me stop to look for tracks. My five-year old daughter in the back seat didn't see much but she had just been watching that Disney "Goofy" movie recently, and had exclaimed, "Mama Bigfoot!" The next day, there were no tracks, sign. Both sides of the highway are heavily forested.

Month: Aug or Sept
Year: 1999

Credibility: 3
Locality: Settlers' Cove along N. Tongass Hwy, Whipple Ck
Researcher: Rob Alley
Witness: Gerald.P.

Sighting Type: 1
Summary: 7 FT BROWN BF IN DITCH, ODOR, FLIES BUZZING AROUND IT

Sighting Text:
TR 90 AUG 1999 * Rob Alley report, kokanee@ptialaska.net This report today from Gerald.P.of Ketchikan,: "Last fall, Aug or Sept, I was riding my bike back to town (Ketchikan, AK) from Settlers' Cove along N. Tongass Hwy., Right near Whipple Ck., about near Cloudberry Rd., 1:30pm or so. I had just slowed down from seeing how fast I could go, when I noticed something stand up in the ditch on my left less than twenty feet away, as I went by. It was big, it would have been about 7' and maybe 275 or 300 lbs, long arms and dark brown fur. The fur was about four inches long on the head and shoulders, shorter on the body. It wasn't a bear. It was bent over with its arms hanging down to his knees. It looked like it was trying to dig at something in the ditch. It had matted hair on the top of his head which was bent over, square shoulders with matted hair and dirty bare patches around the outside of the elbow. It was bent over and I don't think it could see me as I went by. I couldn't see its' eyes but the top of the head at the back had a little bit of a point to it. There were flies buzzing all around it and it stank of...well like crap,and..like a strong urine smell. I just started pedaling like mad and I could hear branches breaking, I thought it was coming after me, but it must have just taken off into the bush because when I looked behind me again, it was gone. I pedaled fast all the way back to Ketchikan." The bush there is thick hemlock and cedar about 50' high, but with a lot of small muskegs with big shore pine around the edges. There were no sounds heard. The only other thing seen was a small black cat that had just popped up out of the ditch behind the creature as Gerald biked by, he says it must have seen the creature because it turned really quickly and bounded into the trees. Nearest houses are about a quarter of a mile away. This is within two hundred yards of a second hand report of a Sasquatch chasing a deer across the highway in front of a half dozen children approx. thirty five years ago, 14'' tracks seen five miles north in 1997 by deer hunters.

Location: Ketchikan Gateway county, AK. UNITED STATES

Latitude: +055˚ 24' N
Longitude: 131˚ 42' W
Day:
Month: DEC

Time: 5AM
Elevation: 52

Data Source: TR 95 MAR 2000
Credibility: 3
Locality: Ward Lake Road, Signal Creek Campground
Researcher: Rob Alley
Witness: ANONYMOUS

Sighting Type: 1
Summary: 6 FT BROWN

Sighting Text:
* Rob Alley. We had a report and an interview with a lady I have known for ten years who requested her identity withheld for family reasons. I would like to forward it to John Green and Andrew P. as well. The date was late December, some time between Christmas and New Years, The location was Ward Lake Road seven miles northwest of Ketchikan near a recreation site. The road is beside the lake in old growth, blacktopped. The woman was driving out early in the morning as she does several times a week to just sit at the end of the road in her truck and sip coffee, her little getaway from a demanding schedule. There was no snow at the time, it had melted for a bit, and it was drizzling lightly, still dark out, five a.m. She said: " I had just cleared the windows with a wipe of the wipers and was coming around the right curve past the Ward Creek Bridge and I flicked to high beam, noticing something in the old salmonberry bushes on the left. It was tall at first I thought it was a deer, you know standing on it's hind legs, all light brown in color. But I changed my mind pretty quick when it turned it's head and shoulders toward me. As I drove past it It turned to it's left, and showed a fur-covered form, I could only see it from the waist up, but it was like a man sort of, about six feet tall and probably not over two hundred pounds. It was walking when I saw it and after I went past I thought, "Wow, I've actually seen one of those creatures they keep talking about," and instead of stopping for my coffee in my truck at the Signal Creek Campground up ahead, I turned back around and pulled over just before getting to the spot I had seen it. I waited about a half hour, but It didn't show itself. I didn't hear or smell anything and although I felt pretty safe sitting there in a three quarter ton pickup, I didn't go out looking for tracks. That was all I saw." The area is mountainous and very densely forested with old growth spruce, hemlock and cedar. There are dolly varden in the Creek year round, possibly steelhead at that time., I don't know. There were ample sword fern roots everywhere. The ocean is approx. two miles down the creek.

can anyone point me to the report form that I’m sure is in here someplace??
@ admin « Tue 1:35 am »
Hey Yankeesearch, didn’t even know you were in chat, now you have the bug so bad you will have to keep going out to see another one. :)
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:56 am »
Anyway, as I stand before God, I did not make this up!
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:55 am »
Not saying it was Sq/BF/DM/Yeti... but it was strange. And I am locking my doors tonight for sure!
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:54 am »
And just I was turning away, I thought I heard snort -- which could have been deer or maybe cattle... but... I do not know.
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:53 am »
I did not have the creepy feeling I normally get in these situations... so I really do not know what to make of it.
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:53 am »
One detail I forgot to mention: the whoop had almost a human like talk after it on both occasions.
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:52 am »
I walked back to the other side, and thought I heard a knock...
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:51 am »
Cattle about 1/8th mile away disappeared... and strangely at that location: it sounded like something banged the metal fence. Not loud... but never ever heard it before tonight.
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:50 am »
Two whoops... and some deer scattering (they may have been scattering because of me).
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:50 am »
From 6:20 PM to maybe 6:45 PM CST
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:49 am »
I may have just had an encounter!
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:46 am »
Hi gang! I know it has been a long time...
@ BrianDriver « Sat 12:59 pm »
Good quality pics. How long were the cams out?
@ admin « Thu 9:09 pm »
Just to get the chat going, it’s going to take some time to move over all the data, but in the end, hope everyone likes the layout here.
