Questioning the M.K. Narrative: Bluff Creek Bigfoot

M.K. Davis has created quite a stir with his latest video and his claim that he unknowingly recorded a Bigfoot at Bluff Creek. M.K. has gone so far as to post two enhanced videos of the subject and one video explaining how he came to record the video in question.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I question all evidence and I never take any evidence at face value. It's in my nature to break it down in every aspect. If there is a crumb trail, I will follow it. Well, I found a few crumbs.

I can tend to be long winded and this might be one of those times because I think it's important to be thorough.

For those who have not seen the alleged Bigfoot video, here it is, as posted by M.K. Davis. All copyrights belong to the copyright holder. Videos and screen shots are used for educational purposes, commentary and criticism purposes only.

I won't post the enhanced videos but I would like you to watch this video where M.K. Davis explains the events that led up to his alleged Bigfoot video.

M.K. drags this video out a bit by covering two months worth of trips to Bluff Creek. He is including a lot of other information in order to give his Bigfoot video some legitimacy, in my opinion. He seems to be going through an awful lot of effort to show what he thinks is Bigfoot activity. The fact is, there is no evidence of that. Broken trees happen for a variety of reasons.

When I go to the woods I come across broken trees all the time. I even come up to groups of broken trees and here is a shot I took a few months ago to prove it.

There are about five or six trees in the foreground that are all broken at about the same height. So what you might say. Exactly, says I. I think M.K. is just trying too hard to convince us that was a Bigfoot.

In the above narrated video (this seems to be a new theme) explaining what happened, Mr. Davis goes on to say they found a lair but in the original video, there is no mention of any such thing. There is a lengthy shot of water trickling from a hillside and then the video cuts away to show Don talking about a deer skull. Likewise, there was no mention of any prints in the original video.

Have a look for yourself. I believe this video was recorded in October of 2008. It's what M.K. says at one point in the video.

This video turned out to be a gem. When I was watching the narrated video and it got to the part with the culverts, I knew I had seen it before. I went to M.K.'s channel and dug until I found the exact video I had seen a couple of years earlier. I used to be quite the M.K. Davis fan but not so much now, sad to say.

I watched the video hoping to find anything in it that would be helpful to this new claim of a recorded yet unseen-by-his-own-eyes Bigfoot. I have recorded hundreds of hours of videos and not once did something this close go unnoticed by me. The human eye is wonderful for detecting movements and shifts in colours, among other fantastic things.  I simply can not buy the notion that M.K. was standing in a creek, recording in front of himself and he didn't notice this being to his right.
M.K. is in a shaded area with no sunlight in his eyes. I find the odds of him not seeing the thing to be astronomically beyond belief.

Davis then goes on to say that he walked by the beast and never saw it. He surmises that the critter pulled a branch down in order to conceal itself from the human. I am to believe that M.K. sloshed down the creek and this massive beast just sat there and didn't move. Perhaps it lost its fight or flight instincts, who knows for sure. All I can say is that I have never seen a large forest animal just stand there when a human gets that close to it. The animal will charge or it will flee but that's my experiences.

Another thing I would like to know is why M.K. cut his video in half. It kind of ruins the context of the situation. The ten or fifteen second video is actually closer to thirty seconds. Don't believe me?
See for yourself.

Once again, am I supposed to believe that M.K. was within yards of a Bigfoot that was apparently washing up with a cloth and this creature was completely unaware of M.K's presence for thirty seconds or longer? Am I supposed to believe that Mr. Davis didn't see the creature either?

What is easier for me to believe is that M.K. recorded his friend at the edge of the creek washing his hands and getting ready to head back to the truck. It also seems to be the most likely explanation.
Seven years is a long time to try to recall events that happened, especially when one doesn't know that they experienced an event in the first place.

Lastly, why didn't M.K. answer two people on his channel that asked who the figure was? There were only four comments below the video so it's not like he couldn't see it. Does M.K. not read his comments? I know I read all of the comments I receive. I may not answer all of them but I do read them. You Tube notifies the channel owner via email and/or Google+.

If you would like to check for yourself, here is a link to the video and the comments: Bluff Creek 2008

I admit that I am not the best at enhancing videos but I made only one adjustment to the video in hopes of exposing any details not seen in the original.

 Full video at normal speed:

First half of the video slowed down and zoomed:

I see what appears to be a human in a reddish coloured shirt who could possibly be wearing a backpack. The resolution is poor but I very much doubt that this is a Bigfoot.

Why dredge up a thirty second video from seven years ago when the originally posted two year old video only had 1,945 views?

Oh.....um.....never mind.

Question everything.

Bigfoot, or Big Tree?

Today I visited one of the Facebook Bigfoot groups and a discussion had started about an old alleged Bigfoot sighting from 2010, however, the video was only recently posted on YouTube.
If you have time check out The Genoskwa Project Ohio , it's a fantastic group.

Here is the video. It's a series of still shots. Link: Paranormal Central

This alleged sighting was also discussed in this video: Bigfoot Photo From Trail Cam

Right from the get go I had problems with this video. First of all, the titles state that the subject in the video is a real Bigfoot without a shred of real evidence or proof shown.

When I see marketing tags like these, it usually raises red flags with me. How can the individuals be so confident that this thing is a Bigfoot?

I watched the video about six times and left some comments in the thread that was discussing this anomaly. From the stills in the video I created some overlays to show what I considered to be nothing more than a tree, foliage and shadows blended together that gave the illusion of a large dark upright body.

Jeffrey Gonzalez from the Sanger Paranormal Society jumped all over me for my own opinion. There were plenty of  "LOL!!!", followed by other words with exclamation points. Mr. Gonzalez, as a last resort, started in with the expected ad hominem attacks. At no point in time did Mr. Gonzalez provide any further evidence to support his claim, save for this ONE photo.

If anything, this one photo helped support my assertions that this is nothing more than pareidolia.

I will lay out the photos down below so you can decide for yourselves.

Jeffrey Gonzalez at the location

They did do a good job of getting the angle right in this photo but that's about as good as it gets in my opinion.

The next photo is a side by side comparison. Note the shadowed tree behind Mr. Gonzalez. Also, note the bright sunlight on the photo on the left. I believe this is causing a darker and/or larger shadow.

This gives a reasonable size comparison between the "Bigfoot" and Mr. Gonzalez. The scale of the two photos is a bit off in the above picture.

That has been corrected in the overlays below.

I don't have a decent animated gif program so I used Bandicam for the following:

So, is this a blurry Bigfoot? A huge bear? Pareidolia?  I'm sticking to my own opinion on this one but don't let that sway your own opinions.

I do not think this is an outright hoax but I do think it's a simple misidentification or wishful thinking...or maybe both.

If someone, especially those with a public platform, are going to assert that something is genuine, I would hope that these people perform their due diligence to rule out ALL possibilities before jumping to the conclusion that something is a Bigfoot.

I suppose trees don't garner much excitement though.

I'm So Startled! - Bigfoot Sighting While Turkey Hunting

There is a new "Bigfoot" video up on YouTube and for some odd reason, there are people who actually think this is the "real deal". Actually, the video is from June 19, 2014. One popular You Tuber has  done a breakdown of the video that supports the two subjects being real Bigfoot. I'm not sure why the video is getting this sudden attention but it is what it is.

This really surprised me because even a quick view of the video does not scream Bigfoot. It screams two-guys-walking-in-the-woods. It's obvious...very obvious.

Here is the video in question:

The first red flag for me is the terrible acting. It seems like the woman is forcing herself to breathe heavily, and she does NOT appear to be startled. She sounds more like Marlin Perkins in an episode of Mutual Omaha's 'Wild Kingdom' than anything else.

The two subjects casually enter the frame and the woman follows them flawlessly, cell phone perfectly focused. It's just a shame she didn't use the zoom function, then we would have a very clear shot of two people. She was poised enough to keep the phone steady, so I see no reason why she would forget about zooming in. That's red flag number two.

I have grabbed some stills from the video, brightened and adjusted the contrast. I don't have fancy software, so I didn't magnify the stills by 700%, which renders the images useless. I resized the images just enough to show differences of colours in the main subject (the one with the dead deer).

I'll post the full sized enhanced images and below those I will post cropped images and add commentary below each one.

Just by looking at the photos above, it's quite easy to see this is nothing more than a man wearing a gray or light coloured jacket.

Next up are the resized cropped stills. Brightness and saturation have been adjusted slightly in order to show detail.

In this photo we can clearly see the bottom line of the jacket, sloping from upper left to lower right. The head of the subject is much darker than the upper body. The legs are also darker than the body but not as dark as the head. The man is carrying something but it does not resemble a deceased deer.

Once again, dark head, light or gray jacket, and pants of a different colour. In the video it may have appeared as if a dead animal was swinging in the arms of a Bigfoot but this still shows something completely different.
It looks like the person is carrying something similar to a pack or a coat, and dangling below that appears to be a smaller bag, perhaps a case for binoculars. A strap can be seen and it's being held be the left hand.

I have isolated and magnified this portion of the video. It doesn't look like a deer head flopping around.

Is he wearing a cap? Light jacket and brown pants, perhaps. He's holding something with the right hand. The arm looks bent at the elbow with the forearm almost horizontal.

I see nothing in this photo that comes close to resembling a Bigfoot. It looks like a person wearing a jacket.

One last thing that I thought was a bit strange and it didn't make sense until someone posted this short clip from South Park.

This could be a coincidence but then again, maybe it's not. I was unaware that people like to parody South Park. A quick search on YouTube yielded many parodies of this very clip.

Thomas Marcum has also taken a look at this video. You can find his post at The Crypto Crew

EDIT: Thanks to a reader of the blog, we have a zoomed and stabilized version of the video.
